Course Description: Food Preservation Project is a hands-on middle school class where students learn essential kitchen skills for safely preserving and preparing food at home. Throughout the semester, students will explore pressure canning and water bath canning, practice proper food safety and handling, and discover how to turn home-canned ingredients into simple, nourishing meals. Along the way, we’ll discuss the science behind safe preservation, why different methods are used for different foods, and how families can confidently store and use their harvest. This class blends practical life skills, basic food science, and homestead traditions, equipping students to safely preserve food and use it to help feed their families.
